Every now and then, a story hits so hard it feels like fate—and that’s exactly what happened when I sat down with Linney at Winter Music Conference in Miami.
Linney, a powerhouse in progressive house and melodic techno, brings a depth to dance music that’s both emotional and electrifying. Her latest track, “Act of God”, co-written with Sarah de Warren, is a testament to that. The track took root during a torrential downpour at last year’s MMW. A canceled set, soaked equipment, and a conversation about artist compensation led Linney to one phrase that stuck with her: Act of God. From that moment, inspiration struck—what started as a soaked weekend became a viral anthem played by John Summit and Dom Dolla, now heard across dance floors worldwide.
I asked Linney what it was like to perform the song at the Experts Only show, and her eyes lit up: “It’s pretty wild to see how much support we’ve gotten on the record,” she said. It was even more surreal when Laidback Luke, who she first met at a writing camp in Sweden, remixed the track and invited her to perform it live in L.A.
Linney’s journey from journaling lyrics in her home studio to holding down stages at MMW and winning an EDMA is nothing short of inspiring. Performing with Cheat Codes and Markus Schulz during her first official MMW shows just how far passion and presence can take you.
When I asked for her advice to upcoming artists, her words were simple but powerful:
"If you love it, if it moves you and resonates with you, just put it out. You can’t measure emotion like metrics… keep chasing where your heart is.”
She’s living proof that showing up, following your heart, and letting go of hesitation can lead to massive breakthroughs.
